Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha spoke at the Conference
Speaking at GEOTEC HANOI 2023, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha highly appreciated the efforts of the units in organizing the 5th International Conference after 4 successful sessions and having practical results in implementation.
He hoped that the Conference would have specific contributions and recommendations for the Government in formulating policies, strategies, and solutions to complete one of the strategic breakthroughs of Vietnam's development to develop infrastructure quickly, greenly, and sustainably.
The Conference was organized by FECON Corporation, in coordination with the Vietnam Society of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (VSSMGE), Thuy Loi University (TLU), the Japan Geotechnical Society (JGS), and the Vietnam Petroleum Institute (VPI). GEOTEC HANOI 2023 was sponsored by the International Society of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
GEOTEC HANOI 2023 International Conference
Mr. Pham Viet Khoa, Chairman of the Board of Directors of FECON Corporation and Head of the Organizing Committee of GH2023, said that Vietnam is a country located in a geographical area with many threats of natural disasters and climate change, especially the very complex geological conditions leading to having to face unsustainable problems related to construction, operation, and exploitation of all types of works nationwide. Therefore, the task of scientists is to find the optimal solution for each specific requirement, applying appropriate technology so that each work ensures 3 criteria of safety, sustainability, and environmental friendliness at the lowest cost. In addition, one of the wishes when organizing this Conference is to contribute to shortening the gap in science and technology in the Geotechnical field between Vietnam and developed countries, and at the same time create a playground for domestic and international scientists to connect, have the opportunity to exchange and learn from each other, exploit and apply scientific achievements achieved in the world and continue to develop.

In addition to the topics that have received much attention from scientists through the previous 4 conferences as Deep foundation, Tunnel and underground construction, Weak soil improvement, Numerical modeling and geotechnical monitoring, Landslides and erosion, etc, GEOTEC HANOI 2023 will have a new and challenging topic for the scientific community and society. That is renewable energy - offshore wind energy.
With 6 topics, GEOTEC HANOI 2023 welcomed in-depth lectures from 6 world-leading professors: Prof. Alessandro Mandolini (University of Campania - Italy), Prof. Giulia M.B. Viggiani (University of Cambridge - UK), Prof. Rainer Massarsch (Geo Risk & Vibration Scandinavia AB - Sweden); Prof. Antonio Gens (Technical University of Catalonia - Spain), Prof. Mitsu Okamura (Ehime University - Vice President of the Japan Geotechnical Society), Prof. Richard Jardine (Imperial College London - UK). In addition, GEOTEC HANOI 2023 had the participation of two speakers: Dr. Marc Ballouz - President of ISSMGE USA, and Prof. Keh-Jian Shou - Vice President of ISSMGE Asia.
According to the Organizing Committee of GEOTEC HANOI 2023, nearly 300 presentations were received from more than 800 authors and groups of authors from 41 countries worldwide. Of these, 208 were accepted by the Scientific Council. The number of abstracts received at GEOTEC HANOI 2023 increased by 15% compared to the 2019 Conference.
GEOTEC HANOI 2023 brings together nearly 1,000 guests who are scientists, design consultants, and managers at home and abroad on construction issues in general and geotechnical engineering of foundations, underground works, and infrastructure. These statistics partly show the interest of experts and scientists at home and abroad in infrastructure construction, geotechnical engineering of foundations, and underground works. It also affirms the reputation and prestige of GEOTEC HANOI - the leading International Conference on Geotechnics and Infrastructure in Vietnam through 5 times of organization.
Following the success of the GEOTEC HANOI 2019 publication, the proceedings of GEOTEC HANOI 2023 were published by Springer Publishing House - one of the world's leading publishers specializing in global education and research, with the title: "Geotechnics for Sustainable Infrastructure Development".
In addition, within the framework of the Conference, an exhibition space with 55 booths was organized for scientific organizations, and domestic and international companies to have the opportunity to introduce their products, brands, technical solutions, and new technologies in production activities, construction of infrastructure, foundation projects, and underground works.
The highlight of the Conference was the sideline activities for the authors, including a Technical Tour at the Metro Line 3 Construction Site (afternoon of December 13, 2023) to survey and make a preliminary assessment of the construction quality using TBM technology.
