On the morning of March 7th, 2025, the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) "Than Toc" successfully reached S10 - Cat Linh Station, completing its first underground tunneling phase for the Hanoi Metro Line 3 Project.
Following nearly nine months of challenging construction, overcoming stringent technical, geological, and schedule requirements, FECON has achieved a proud milestone in the journey to conquer this key underground infrastructure project.
Over 1,338 meters of tunnel from S9 – Kim Ma Station to S10 – Cat Linh Station have been completed safely, accurately, and on schedule, affirming FECON's superior capabilities in underground construction. Currently, the progress of CP03 – Underground Tunnel & Station package has reached approximately 56%. Simultaneously, TBM No. 2 is continuing its drilling operation from S9 Station, and it is projected that by the end of 2025, both TBMs will have completed the entire tunnel alignment.
Throughout the construction process, FECON has closely collaborated with experts, the general contractor, and consulting units, utilizing a state-of-the-art geotechnical monitoring system to meticulously track ground displacement and subsidence. Tunnel boring operations are carried out under strict supervision, ensuring absolute safety for existing structures and optimal quality for the metro tunnel alignment.
This significant milestone not only marks the success of the initial construction phase but also motivates FECON to continue pioneering in the field of urban underground infrastructure, realizing the aspiration to build a modern and sustainable transportation infrastructure system for the residents of the Capital.
The Nhon – Hanoi Railway Urban Line project is one of the key transportation projects of the Capital, contributing to reducing congestion, improving the public transport system, and enhancing the quality of the urban environment. The tunneling phase construction progress is being carried out decisively with the goal of ensuring safety, quality, and adherence to the schedule.
The Hanoi Metropolitan Railway Management Board is committed to continuing close collaboration with relevant parties to complete the subsequent items, aiming to put the entire project into operation as soon as possible. It is expected that the underground section will be completed by 2027, after which the entire Metro Line 3, Nhon – Hanoi section, will be put into operation, contributing to transforming the urban transport landscape, conveniently connecting areas, and promoting sustainable development towards urban greening.
The pair of TBM machines were specifically designed for the Hanoi Metro Line 3, Nhon - Hanoi Station section. These machines were manufactured by Herrenknecht (Germany), each exceeding 100 meters in length and weighing approximately 850 tons. The total personnel dedicated to the construction operation is over 150 individuals.
