In July, FECON RAITO Underground Construction Joint Stock Company (FECON RAITO) collaborated with the Shaanxi Railway Institute (China) to organize a training course on shield tunneling technology, with the participation of 11 trainees.
The 13-day training program was conducted in two formats: online and in-person. The in-person component took place over 10 days, from October 19 to 29, 2024, at the Shaanxi Railway Institute.
At the opening ceremony, Mr. Liu Mingxue, Vice President of Shaanxi Railway Institute, stated: “Immediately after receiving the request from FECON RAITO, we assembled a team of highly qualified instructors to design the curriculum and prepare the necessary facilities and equipment to ensure the training program would deliver the best possible outcomes.”
The course was structured into modules focused on shield tunneling technology, covering topics such as tunnel boring machine (TBM) operation, segment erector operation, equipment maintenance, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems. After each module, trainees completed both theoretical assessments and hands-on practical exercises using actual equipment.
Mr. Vu Trung Hieu from the Technical Department of FECON RAITO shared: “Shaanxi Railway Institute, established in 1973, is one of China’s leading institutions in railway engineering education. This training program provided us with a fully equipped learning environment, including model rooms and real machinery. The course content was presented in a highly visual and practical manner, closely aligned with the real-world tunneling work being carried out on FECON’s ongoing projects. This greatly enhanced the effectiveness of the training.”
This short-term training program in China offered FECON’s engineering team an invaluable opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge of cutting-edge tunneling technologies, which can be applied directly to current and future projects. It also allowed participants to improve their professional expertise, refine their technical skills, and engage with top-tier industry experts—laying a strong foundation for ensuring construction quality across projects, including major ones such as Hanoi Metro Line 3.
